Q&A: What legal issues are involved with blogging?
Question by ElinorFerrars: What legal issues are involved with blogging?
I was thinking of starting a blog so I did some research into it on the internet and came across a lot of stuff that talks about legal issues and blogging. I’m not planning on blogging about controversial issues, (my blog would focus on posts about books, movies, culture, theater, music etc, and all material would be solely my own opinions) so what legal issues are involved with blogging?
Should I write a copyright disclaimer or are blog disclaimers actually worthless?

Well, I am not a lawyer, but there are some items blogs should have.
If you are an affiliate for any the items you mention in your blog (that is you may make money if some one purchases something through a link on your site) the FTC requires that you state this. It doesn’t need to be complicated. Just state the fact. I like entertaining ones myself. Google it for more info.
Also you need to have a privacy policy. You can a detailed and legal one generated for you free at http://www.freeprivacypolicy.com.
It is also a good idea to have a contact form. If you are using WordPress.org, you can use a plugin. Contact 7 form is a good one.
I simply put the disclaimer and privacy statement links in my footer. I don’t think other disclaimers are worthless. Simply add that everything on your site is just your opinion to the disclaimer you have about making money via links.
