Depending on what service you’re planning on using, you should be able to do a domain transfer through your hosting service. (I use namecheap.com so my instructions will be from that site)
First thing you will need to do is check to make sure that wordpress is willing to release your domain name. If you are allowed to do that then have them release it then follow the domain transfer options on your new hosting service. (You may need to get your hosting service’s technical support to help you with this)
1. Log into your domain registrar/hosting service.
2. Choose transfer domain from another provider. This will be in your user control panel.
3. Point the old domain name to your current front page. This can be found in your preferences or account settings page.
Depending on the way you registered your domain name it may not be available for transfer, or you may have to buy it from wordpress for a higher rate. That is normal for “big” providers to do as a way to keep you on their service.

I would recommend you to contact you web hosting company on this. Most hosting companies such as HostGator, VEXXHOST etc. provides free migration.

Hope this helps.
I’ll assume that you already have a blog which is created using WordPress CMS and you wish to switch to a different web hosting provider but retain the domain name.
In this case you need not worry about anything, you may simply choose a suitable web hosting provider that offer support for WordPress. Usually these packages are cheap and come at an affordable price, so finding a host wouldn’t be a problem. As far as the domain is concerned, you might have be provided with a domain control panel by the domain registrar. You would indeed retain the ownership of the domain (though Im not sure whether your current host allows you to do so).
Before switching to another hosting provider and migrating the data over to them, I would strongly advise you to take the backup of your current database onto your local machine. This would avoid any future trouble from your current host. If you haven’t decided the hosting provider and looking for one in the UK, do pay a visit to Eukhost Ltd., they are one of the reputed hosting companies in the UK and offer 24×7 support via phone, Live chat and tickets(emails).
